Holy Spirit-Filled Home: Encountering Your Supernatural Assignment

God is raising up people who know who they are.

God is raising up sons and daughters who know they are sons and daughters, not sinners saved by grace. Scripture never calls us sinners saved by grace. According to Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV), “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Therefore, after salvation, sinner is no longer a part of your identity. It’s simply removed from the equation of who you are. We are His “Beloved”—in other words, the loved ones of God, His beloved children, His beloved sons and daughters! Verses such as 1 John 4:17 tell us explicitly who we are and how we are to live: “As He [Jesus] is, so are we in this world.” Knowing your God-given identity is the starting place in bringing health and revival to yourself and to your family.

Because God has given us an identity in Himself, you are more powerful than you realize. You are a daughter, a son, an heir, a bride of Christ. For some of us, God’s purpose has been lying dormant because we do not fully know who we are. We don’t understand our identity. Even in churches, people often settle for some cleaned up, good or better version of themselves that is not what God originally intended. In fact, their understanding and their lives are far from what God originally intended. When you do not see yourself in the way God sees you and when you do not know His nature or His heart, you settle for second best. You live a life God never intended you to live.

Recognizing who we are in Jesus and what we can now access because of Jesus is key. Jesus is not a picture or an ideal of the person I might become someday when I get to Heaven. He is a mirror of who I am now. The world needs you to believe what God has said about you. Romans 8:19 tells us, “Creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.” All creation is waiting for you to know who you are and to understand your identity. Salvation doesn’t assure you are a son. If that were true, then creation wouldn’t be “eagerly waiting” for sons. People get saved every day. There is something different and distinct about sons and daughters. In short, sons and daughters know who they are because they know what they carry—authority.

In Genesis 1:26-28 God tells us who we are and why we were created:

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

We have been created in the image of God to look like Him, to resemble Him, and to represent Him. We are made in God’s likeness to function and to operate like Him. This Truth is extraordinary! Then God gave Adam and Eve the authority to rule and to reign. He gave them dominion. When Adam and Eve were deceived by the enemy, they did not just lose their home in Eden. They lost a kingdom where they ruled and reigned.

When satan offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world, those kingdoms legally were his to offer. In Matthew 4:8-9, we read that satan tempted Jesus for the third time in the wilderness, “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.’” The kingdom rightfully belonged to the enemy the second Adam and Eve handed it to him in Genesis. When this happened, Adam and Eve lost their authority in the garden. They handed over their authority to the serpent. The serpent did not take it from them. He may have deceived and tricked them, but ultimately Adam and Eve handed it over willingly. But what does this handing over of authority have to do with my identity? My family? Everything. It has everything to do with it.

Romans 5:17 states, “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” Jesus died and was resurrected not only to forgive us of sin, but to get back authority. Jesus came to restore what was lost in the garden—authority. Then Jesus did something truly remarkable. He gave His authority to us so that we could “reign in life” through Him. “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Keys represent authority. And because we now have the keys, we now can reign and rule. We are called to use those keys. Whatever you need access to in Heaven, whether that’s healing, breakthrough, revelation, or wisdom, know this—you’ve been given the key. And it is up to us to unlock those things and bring them into the world—into the natural realm. We have the authority to call into order everything that is in disarray. Begin doing this in your own life and in your family. You have the keys to do this!

We are called to live victorious lives, and that is what reigning is all about. According to Romans 8:15-17:

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.

We are destined to reign because it is our identity and our inheritance as children and heirs. Heirs have an inheritance. Our inheritance is to live victoriously, ruling and reigning with King Jesus. I’d like to propose to you that this begins in our homes.

A popular song encourages children to “let their little lights shine.” While the message of the song is admirable, I have always wondered why the light had to be little. Why tell children their light is little? Why not tell children their light is big and has the potential to be bigger than they could ever imagine? Religion says your light is small so stay away from the world, but the Kingdom of Heaven says you were designed to light up every- thing around you. Each one of us has been created to drive out the darkness. Jesus specifically told us, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house” (Matthew 5:14-15). A single lamp to light up the darkness to everyone in the house is not a “little light.” It is immense! It is far reaching! John 1:5 (ESV) tells us, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” We are to shine brightly so that others “may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We sing hymns about making it to Heaven, yet Jesus reminds us throughout the New Testament that “the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:7). And we have the potential, the power, and the authority to bring light wherever there is darkness. Use your keys!

In Romans 8:19, Paul tells us, “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.” In 1 Peter 1:2 (TPT), Peter tells us, “You are not forgotten, for you have been chosen and destined by Father God. The Holy Spirit has set you apart to be God’s holy ones.” They are talking about us! They are talking about you! They are talking about your family! We were meant, we were called, to live set apart carrying and demonstrating God’s presence in a powerful, unique way as His sons and daughters, as God’s holy ones. We were meant to let our light shine for everyone to see. Although we may differ in the ways we manifest the Father and carry God’s presence, these ways are deeply important. We want people to look at us, our lives, and all we do and think, “Wow! The Kingdom of Heaven looks just like that!”

Take Moses, for example. When Moses descended from Mount Sinai after forty days in God’s presence, he had to cover his face because it was shining so brightly the Israelites were frightened. In fact, he kept his face covered unless he was in the tabernacle (see Exodus 34:28-35). The people knew by the radiance of his face that Moses not only had been in God’s presence, he carried God’s presence with him. Joshua also carried God’s presence. “As they had stood in awe of Moses, so they stood in awe of Joshua for the rest of his life” (Joshua 4:14 TPT).

Carrying God’s presence and revealing the glory of God as Moses and Joshua did requires us to have “a different spirit” as Caleb did upon returning from Canaan and trusting God would deliver the land to the Israelites to enter it as He promised. “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it” (Numbers 14:24). Having a different spirit means we are not fearful as fear is not part of God’s nature (see 1 John 4:18; 2 Timothy 1:7). Despite the size and number of the Canaanites, Joshua and Caleb were not fearful because they trusted the word of the Lord. They only saw what God had promised. When knowing your God-given identity, you have a different spirit—a spirit that is not fearful, a spirit that is full of courage and faith. Thus, you are able to reproduce God’s nature in your life in a unique and powerful way and to impart this identity of sons and daughters to your children so they, too, may have a different spirit. In doing so, you bring heaven to earth. The implications of this for your family are astronomical. Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 2:9-10 (TPT):

But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world. For at one time you were not God’s people, but now you are. At one time you knew nothing of God’s mercy, because you hadn’t received it yet, but now you are drenched with it!

Knowing who you are, knowing your identity through Christ, sets you apart. During this unprecedented move of God coming to earth, it is this identity that will set believers apart. Identity always leads to purpose, and purpose always leads to assignment. When you know who you are, you know what you are called to do, and you know you have the keys to do it.
