Musicians Should Be Able to Prophesy
After years of ministry, and being involved in worship, I have come to the conclusion that musicians and singers should be able to prophesy. We have separated music from prophecy in many churches, but they are connected in the word of God. I have always had a strong focus on what David established in Zion. In 1 Chronicles 25, he established worship with three prophetic families. (Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun). The fathers of these families were prophets (seers) and their children also prophesied with instruments.
Many musicians in our churches have never been activated in the prophetic. Many are skillful, but they do not operate in any level of prophecy. This needs to change, If we want to see the glory of God in our worship. We need strong musicians who are able to prophesy. We need singers who can prophesy as well.
David, the worshiper, was also a prophet. God used prophets to established Israel’s worship (David, Gad, and Nathan)"And he set the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the Lord by his prophets." 2 Chronicles 29:25.
Musicians and singers should desire to prophesy like everyone else (1 Cor.14:1). It is not enough to just play an instrument. It is not enough to learn and play songs. Musicians and singers need to move by INSPIRATION. A prophet was defined simply as an INSPIRED MAN or WOMAN. To prophesy simply means to speak, sing or play by INSPIRATION.
Unclean musicians have unclean spirits. Unclean spirits can be transmitted through music. Music is a powerful force and is a way of transmitting either the anointing or uncleanness. Satan targets the musicians. Everyone in the church is affected by music. Everyone who comes in is exposed to music. It is wise for intercessors to pray for the music department, and even pray over the musical instruments.
Prophetic musicians understand that they are CALLED. This places a greater demand on them to live a lifestyle of holiness. They are not just playing music in a church to receive a salary. It is not just a job to them, to get income. It is a divine calling. They need the study the Word, pray, fast, and flow in the spirit like every other believer. It is time to RAISE THE STANDARD. Musicians should play the music that the glory of God can dwell in.
Prophetic Musicians can pull the whole congregation into the prophetic flow. This is what happened when Saul met a company of prophets who were playing musical instruments and were prophesying.
"After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy: And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man." 1 Samuel 10:5-6
